Now on the Lot at Beadle Ford
2027 Ford Explorer Buyers Guide
The 2027 Ford Explorer keeps the three-row, up-to-5,000-lb-towing formula and sharpens the top of the lineup: the Tremor gets its own 3.0L EcoBoost V6 equipment group, the 3.0L returns to the Platinum, and the ST adds the new Sinister Package. Two new paints, Avalanche Gray and Ruby Red Metallic Tinted Clearcoat, join the palette. The first 2027 Explorer is on the lot at Beadle Ford in Bowdle, SD now, next to our 2026 Explorers, and more are arriving.
Here's our read: if you drive an Active or ST-Line, the 2027 and 2026 are close enough that the right answer is usually the one on the lot. If you want a V6 Platinum, a Sinister ST, or the new colors, that's a 2027. This page covers what changed, what it costs, what it tows, and how to pick the right one.
What's New for the 2027 Ford Explorer
2027 is a top-of-lineup year. The Tremor, which debuted for 2026, now offers the 3.0L EcoBoost V6 as its own 801A equipment group; the 3.0L V6 comes back to the Platinum; and the ST gets the Sinister Package. Below that, the changes are paint, roof, and convenience items.
- Tremor 801A: the 3.0L EcoBoost V6 becomes its own Tremor equipment group, bundling BlueCruise hardware with a 90-day trial, an open-on-approach liftgate, a power-fold third row, driver memory, and electronic sound enhancement. Sun and Sound is now available on it.
- 3.0L EcoBoost V6 on Platinum: ordering the V6 on a Platinum includes the 3.0L Ultimate Package (Lux Leather, quilted seats and door panels, quad chrome exhaust tips, 21-inch dark alloy wheels).
- ST Sinister Package (19G, $1,695): 21-inch gloss black aluminum wheels, 275/45R21 all-season tires, amber LED daytime running lamps, and a red ST badge with a black outline.
- Two new paints: Avalanche Gray and Ruby Red Metallic Tinted Clearcoat. Space White Metallic is dropped.
- Panoramic Vista Roof with Power Shade replaces the fixed glass roof; a Slick Roof Conversion (no roof rails) is a $295 option on Active 200A, ST-Line, ST, and Platinum.
- Universal garage door opener is optional on Tremor, ST, and Platinum, and every 2027 includes a year of the Ford Security Package (theft alerts, start inhibit, stolen-vehicle services).
From the Beadle Ford Lot
The first 2027 to land here was an Active 4WD in Avalanche Gray, and that tells you something: the new gray is not a subtle change. It reads darker and warmer than Carbonized Gray in person. If you're choosing between the two, come see them side by side before you order.

Ford Co-Pilot360™ Assist+ is standard on every trim (adaptive cruise with stop-and-go and lane centering, pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring with trailer coverage, lane keeping, rear cross-traffic braking); ST-Line and up add Assist 2.0 with the 360-degree camera, front parking sensors, and reverse brake assist.

2027 Ford Explorer Colors
Eight exterior colors for 2027. New: Avalanche Gray ($395) and Ruby Red Metallic Tinted Clearcoat ($495). Carried over: Agate Black Metallic, Carbonized Gray Metallic, Marsh Gray ($495, ST-Line and up), Star White Metallic Tri-Coat ($795), Vapor Blue Metallic ($495), and Oxford White (fleet only). Space White Metallic is gone. The Black Painted Roof ($4,895) is not offered with Agate Black.
Towing, Winter, and Family Use in South Dakota
Towing. Up to 5,000 lbs on every trim with either engine, and the Class III hitch and wiring are standard, so a fishing boat, a small camper, or a snowmobile trailer is in range without a package. Trailer Sway Control and blind-spot monitoring with trailer coverage are standard.
Winter. Nearly every Explorer we sell is 4WD, and for good reason: Intelligent 4WD with seven drive modes, heated front seats from Active 200A up, a heated steering wheel with the Active Comfort Package, and the $190 engine block heater option that we recommend for anything that sits outside in January.
Family use. Three rows, 16.3 cu ft behind the third row for the hockey bags, 85.3 cu ft with the back two rows down, a power-fold third row on ST, Platinum, and Tremor 801A, and tri-zone climate control standard. If you need a bigger third row or more than 5,000 lbs of towing, that's an Expedition: Explorer vs. Expedition, which Ford three-row.
