Six trims cover a wide range of budgets and priorities, from the value-focused Active to the fully loaded Platinum. About the Ford Escape
The Ford Escape has been a staple of the compact SUV segment since its introduction — a vehicle that found its footing as a practical, fuel-efficient, family-capable SUV that didn't require a truck-sized budget or a truck-sized parking spot. Over the years it grew into a genuinely sophisticated vehicle, with full hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrain options, available AWD across most of the lineup, and a driver-assistance suite that rivals much more expensive vehicles.
For buyers in central South Dakota, the Escape has always been a strong fit for the second-vehicle role — fuel-efficient enough to justify the highway miles, practical enough for family use, and with enough AWD trim options to handle winter roads between Bowdle, Aberdeen, and the communities in between. The 2026 model year brings that story to a close. Ford is retooling Louisville Assembly for EV production after 2026, and the Escape goes out on a strong note.

Ford Escape: Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Ford Escape being discontinued?
Yes. The 2026 Ford Escape is the final model year. Ford is ending Escape production after 2026 to retool the Louisville Assembly Plant for electric vehicle production. The 2026 Escape is the last one Ford will build. If you've been considering an Escape, 2026 is your last opportunity to buy one new.
What Ford SUVs are available if I can't find an Escape in stock?
Beadle Ford carries the Ford Bronco Sport, Ford Explorer, and Ford Maverick — all of which are remaining in Ford's lineup. The Bronco Sport is the closest size comparison, with standard 4x4 on every trim. The Explorer offers more passenger and cargo room. The Maverick is a compact truck with comparable pricing and a standard hybrid powertrain. All three are available now at Beadle Ford in Bowdle.
Does the Ford Escape come with all-wheel drive?
Yes, most trims offer AWD. The ST-Line Select, ST-Line Elite, and Platinum trims all come with AWD as standard equipment — it's not an option, it's included. The Active and ST-Line can be upgraded to AWD as an option. The one exception is the PHEV trim, which is front-wheel drive only; there is no AWD version of the Escape PHEV.
What is the fuel economy of the Ford Escape?
Fuel economy varies significantly by powertrain. The 1.5L EcoBoost gas engine achieves up to approximately 30 mpg combined (FWD). The 2.5L hybrid AWD achieves up to approximately 39 mpg combined. The PHEV achieves up to approximately 101 MPGe operating on electricity, and approximately 40 mpg combined on the gas engine after the battery depletes. Is the Ford Escape a good vehicle for South Dakota winters?
AWD-equipped Escape trims handle South Dakota winters well. The ST-Line Select, ST-Line Elite, and Platinum all include AWD as standard equipment, and the hybrid AWD powertrain in particular combines strong traction with excellent fuel economy for the highway miles between Bowdle, Aberdeen, and Mobridge. Ford Co-Pilot360 driver-assistance technology — including automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic braking, and lane-keeping assist — is standard on all trims. If winter driving is a priority, the ST-Line Select with hybrid AWD is the strongest combination in the lineup for central South Dakota conditions.
